The White Evangelical Christian Candidate Preference and Abortion
I also sent this out to the readers of the GOPUSA.com Distribution on August 13, 2008. I came across the above YouTube video several days ago and it has taken me a while to decide to send this out as it is quite disturbing. Please watch this video and then forward this to someone you love. If you have not read my editorial below, please do. I recommend that you do not allow children to watch this. I hope I have made the right decision by sending this out.
I had a conversation with someone yesterday that has inspired me to start writing about a subject that I believe will be one of the most important factor in this election. It includes who McCain picks for his VP slot, but that is not the main topic. The subject; abortion. If there is one best example of how far left the Democratic party has leaned over the last three decades, it is on this one subject.
Coincidentally Dr. Richard Land was on Fox & Friends this morning talking about the White Evangelical Candidate Preference (WECP) and I was amazed that the latest Pew Research Center for People and the Press (June 18-29) stated that with WECP voters, 25% of 2,0004 registered voters (M of E +/- 2.5%) were for Obama. Now 65% were for McCain, but 12% “Don’t Know.” I tried to find this one poll on their website but after 30 minutes I gave up looking. So here is the video direct from Fox News. What I personally am convinced of is that there is no further left issue that will dominate this election than abortion. Dr. Land also believes that this will be the deciding issue for many Christians. With Obama, the issue is clear. He not only believes in Pro-Choice, at least when he votes, but then if you look at abortion related voting records in general, you will see that abortion is definitely a partisan issue. In one vote for a recent abortion related bill there were all Democrats for, and all Republicans (except two RINO’s from Maine) against. This bill “ Funds legislation that would create and expand teen pregnancy prevention programs and education programs concerning emergency contraceptives. I read this as providing what is referred to as “The Morning After Pill” for instant contraception that would “prevent pregnancy” but not provide statistics. This type of contraception does not protect teenagers from either uterine cancer vulnerability or venereal disease. But it does eliminate those ‘unwanted babies.’
Dr. Land believes that the numbers will become even greater for McCain, or some of the WECP will just stay at home come November. He believes the deciding factor among these voters will be the abortion issue. For this reason he feels that who McCain picks as a VP will be a critical factor for these voters as they want to be sure that both candidates will protect the life of unborn children. I can see the logic in this. Remember, we are not just talking about electing a president here, we are also looking at the selection for two or three of the next Supreme Court nominees over the next 4 to 8 years. If you have the stomach for it, here is an article that I believe states Obama’s policy regarding abortion (including partial-birth and allowing the baby to die after birth if all attempts to kill it do not succeed) from Pat Buchanan, A Catholic Case Against Barack written on August 12, 2008. Here is a quote from that article that I find disturbing:
“Thrice in the Illinois legislature, Obama helped block a bill that was designed solely to protect the life of infants already born, and outside the womb, who had miraculously survived the attempt to kill them during an abortion. Thrice, Obama voted to let doctors and nurses allow these tiny human beings die of neglect and be tossed out with the medical waste.
How can a man who purports to be a Christian justify this? If, as its advocates contend, abortion has to remain legal to protect the life and health, mental and physical, of the mother, how is a mother's life or health in the least threatened by a baby no longer inside her — but lying on a table or in a pan fighting for life and breath?
How is it essential for the life or health of a woman that her baby, who somehow survived the horrible ordeal of abortion, be left to die or put to death? Yet, that is what Obama voted for, thrice, in the Illinois Senate.”
In any case, you will find that it is difficult to ascertain just what many candidates stand for in an election cycle as if they are for something, then they lose the votes of those who are against it. This is why a politician will cater to the belief structure of his/her base in the primaries and then move to the center (read I’m for both sides of this issue) come election time. There will be some people who vote for Obama because he is a liberal, some who will vote for him because he is Black, and some who will vote for him because they believe in change (even if they have no idea what change). To be fair, you will see some of that same reasoning on the conservative side. I think the major difference between the two candidates comes down to who do we trust. If there is one issue that I trust will help me decide who to vote for, we then come full circle back to the issue of abortion. If you think that there is a consensus on abortion and birth control in this country then get yourself a cup of coffee (or tea), sit back, and take a look at the discrepancies in the many (and I do mean many) polls taken on this issue. If you are interested in reading what Obama has said about anything in his last 2 years running for president, here is the place to go.
