The "New Liberal Democratic Party." Not the party our parents grew up with (or would recognize today).

[John K. Matyi] If you live in Denver, Detroit, Las Vegas, Grand Rapids, Flint, Green Bay, Tampa, Albuquerque, Cleveland, or Reno, you are possibly watching Obama or McCain TV ads as much as 1200 to 1300 times per day! The rest of the country, we only get to watch the ads that end with "Tell’em Billy sentcha [sic]" and the various ads for “ED” (you figure out what 'ED' stands for). We could spend the next hour-or-two just discussing the ads them self, but that is not why I am writing this. Because this is how the presidential election process has evolved over the last forty years. How do we pick a president? Bombard 10 cities with 24/7 TV ads? What about the rest of the country?

Remember the 'liberal bubble' that we have discussed in past articles, and how the 'Democratic Liberal Elite' (not all Democrats by the way) live in their little world and wouldn't know what true Blue Collar or Red Neck Americans think about as they don't know any and don't want to. There are certainly none in their bubble.

Now back to all those TV ads. Who do they think is watching them? If you are reading this you might just also have cable or satellite TV. If so you might also have a Digital Video Recorder (DVR) or a TiVo. When was the last time you actually sat there and watched the commercials? BTW, sorry for yelling. The way we pick a new president is obviously different from 40 years ago, and so is the New Democratic Party. But part of the problem is they think the way to become president is to use the same tactics companies use to get us to buy their mouthwash.

I have been a 'Blue Collar' and a Red Neck' most of my life (I started college at age 35). Until I came back from the military (Vietnam) in 1967, I also thought of myself as a Democrat (Bless my heart)!
Let me explain that last remark, about the Democrats not the ED. J  I grew up in a Hungarian ghetto in Bridgeport, Connecticut. My parents were first generation immigrants from a country in Europe called Hungary (near Budapest to be exact). My Grandparents on both sides came here on a boat and landed on Ellis Island in the early 1900’s. I think we now refer to them as documented aliens. They came to Bridgeport, Connecticut because that is where the jobs were; in the ship yards. They came to America to be free from oppression. They were hard working religious people.

When my father died (at age 85) he had worked for the same trucking company for 37 years. My Mom was a ‘work at home’ mother of four children (I was the brat). Both smoked heavily for years. I would say very typical for the time period. So it is not surprising that they both thought of themselves as Democrats. My Mom had a 1st year of high school education, my Dad, never got past 3rd grade. I was the first in my family to go to college. But like the rest of their generation they always wanted their children to get an education, live in their own home, and to have a better life.

I can remember my dad coming home from his “full time job” at All States Freight loading and unloading very big trucks, eat supper (yep, that’s what we called it), and then go off to his “part-time" job delivering furniture to homes. During the summer months he would get a five-week vacation from ASF and then he would go off to his “vacation job.” For five weeks he would unload cement boats at the ship yards. To say that I developed a strong work ethic in my formative years would probably be an understatement.

I remember my Mom telling me that the Democrats are for the poor people (like us) and the Republicans are for the rich. That was the very first time I knew we were poor. So I grew up thinking I was a Democrat. Then I came home from fighting a war in Vietnam and was introduced to liberals. They were the war protesters, the people who not only 'hated' the war, they hated the military. But they were not just peaceful protesters of the war. They were hateful, divisive, blame our country for all that is bad in the world, and sometimes dangerous. The Bill Ayres types, puppets of the Marxist/Communist protest leaders who called themselves the New Democratic Party.

Well, I knew this New Liberal party was not the same as the one my parents grew up with; they was nothing like my parents who loved this country and who thought of themselves as Americans, not Hungarian-Americans. My grandmother on my father’s side came here when she was 16, but she spoke good English, became successful enough to own her own house, and even contributed to the down payment so my parents could buy a home. We were a family, but no different from anyone we knew.

So why did I tell you all of this, sorry I took so long to get to this point, but I wanted you to know why I just may have a good bit of knowledge based on experience when I write about the New Liberal Democratic Party. Let’s talk about the willingness (or lack thereof) to defend our country. The following is taken from Sean Hannity's book, Let Freedom Ring:

September 19, 1979. The Democrats controlled the White House, the House, and the Senate. Jimmy Carter was president. Islamic fundamentalist radicals in Iran were less than two months away from seizing the U.S. embassy in Teheran.  The Soviet Union was just a few months away from invading Afghanistan. The U.S. Military was run-down and demoralized after Vietnam. Congress voted on an amendment that would increase defense spending by $3 billion to upgrade our defense systems, but Tom Daschle, a freshman congressman, voted against it. In fact, so did most of his fellow Democrats, including Representative Dick Gephardt, a Missouri Democrat who, of course, is now the most powerful Democrat in the House (and another presidential hopeful). The promilitary amendment went down in flames, 221 to 191.

May 4, 1983. The U.S. House of Representatives passed a nuclear freeze bill by a vote of 278 to 149. Joining his liberal buddies Al Gore and Dick Gephardt in favor of the freeze was none other than Tom Daschle.  August 4, 1990. Two days after Iraq invaded Kuwait, Saddam Hussein was clearly one of the most dangerous men in the world. He was poised to seize control of some 60 percent of the world’s oil supplies, had developed ballistic missiles capable of hitting Israel, Saudi Arabia, and other Arab neighbors, and was developing chemical, biological, and possibly nuclear weapons to be delivered by his ballistic missiles. Keep in mind that Hussein had already used chemical weapons against his own people.

The world was quickly plunging into a move into the region to protect Saudi Arabia and liberate Kuwait. There could be no doubt that Saddam Hussein was a dangerous menace who was close to developing the capacity to strike directly at the United States with weapons of mass destruction. Nuclear weapons in the hands of a ruthless dictator were no longer merely idle speculation but an inevitable reality. America had precious little time to prepare a defense.  Remarkably, liberals in Congress were not moved by this latest threat. In fact, they introduced an amendment to the defense budget that would slash ballistic missile defense research and development funding by $400 million.

Fortunately, the amendment, sponsored by Senator John Kerry, was defeated, 54 to 43. Yet seven out  of ten Democrats voted for Kerry’s  amendment, including Senators Ted  Kennedy, Joe Lieberman, Bill Bradley,  and—sure enough—freshman senator  Tom Daschle. By contrast, almost nine out of ten Republican senators voted to protect missile defense spending, along with a handful of Democrats.

October 15, 1990. By this time, Saddam Hussein’s forces had overrun Kuwait.  Hussein announced that Kuwait had now been annexed as part of Iraq. President Bush drew a line in the sand, and a massive U.S. military buildup in the Persian Gulf was under way. Brave American soldiers were heading into harm’s way. It was time for Congress to  vote on the $268 billion defense budget  that would, among other things, pay our  troops, provide $1 billion more to expand  sea lift capabilities, invest in more M-1  Abrams tanks, keep tank-making plants  open, buy B-2 bombers, upgrade our  submarine forces, and invest $3.57 billion  in missile defense. Finally, the eve-of-war defense bill passed—but Daschle voted against it.

January 12, 1991. Decision Day. U.S. and allied forces were amassed in the Persian Gulf. Bush was ready to give the green light. But liberals in Congress again fought Bush tooth and nail. Hussein knew Congress was divided. Some Bush advisers didn't’t want a vote of Congress authorizing the use of force in the Gulf, for fear that Congress might defeat the joint resolution, tying the president’s hands. But President Bush wanted America to go into battle united, so he called for a vote.

The House debate was intense and divisive. In the end, all but 3 of the 167 House Republicans voted yes to the use of force. But the vast majority of House Democrats voted no—voted against fighting to set the people of Kuwait free. A stunning 179 Democrats—including their leader, Dick Gephardt—voted no, while only 86 voted yes.  The Senate debate was even more intense, and the vote was even closer. In the end, the use-of-force resolution passed, but narrowly—52 to 47. A full 95 percent of Senate Republicans voted yes to set Kuwait free. Even Senators Al Gore and Joe Lieberman voted yes. But an incredible 82 percent of Senate Democrats voted no—82 percent—including Tom Daschle and a number of other liberal presidential hopefuls.

[John K. Matyi]
So how can we best decide who should be the next President and Commander-in-Chief of our entire military? Will it be through sound bites repeated over and over again by surrogates? Will it be by watching 1200 TV commercials all day? If we truly love America and want it to be protected we have to use the history of the candidates, and the decisions made by the candidates over their life-time. Lets look at what the next president will be facing in January:

  • An American(Marriott) hotel in Islamabad, Pakistan blown up by a murderous fanatical 'suicide' driver, killing 60+ people (the leaders of Pakistan were supposed to be there but they changed plans at the last moment).
  • An "October Surprise" is thought to be in the planning by Islamic fundamentalist radicals for somewhere in America, or on one of our allies.
  • Russia is playing war games with Communist China off the coast, storming beaches.  Analysts say China and Russia are signaling they are prepared to counter US dominance in international affairs.
  • The Russian navy has also announced that some of its ships will visit Venezuela in November and may hold joint exercises in its territorial waters.

I recently wrote an editorial that showed evidence that Iran was very close to both operational ballistic missiles and the A-bomb: Iran is just a heartbeat away from the A-bomb. Last Friday the Daily Telegraph reported Iran has surreptitiously removed a sufficient amount of uranium from its nuclear production facility in Isfahan to produce six nuclear bombs. Given Iran's already acknowledged uranium enrichment capabilities, the Telegraph's report indicates that Iran is now in the late stages of assembling nuclear bombs.

We live in a dangerous world. When you go to the polls this November remember our country has never been attacked because we were too strong. You may like Barack Obama, you may think of your self as a Democrat, but when you vote this year, think of yourself as an American. America first will always be the motto of John McCain.

If you want more information about why we need the best possible Commander-in-Chief for the future issues we face, I suggest you read the rest of Sean Hannity's book. I have downloaded it on to my Amazon.com Kindle and I hope to finish it by the weekend. It is difficult to put it down.
