Another Obama 'Mispeak.' He must have been off the Teleprompter. “So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can,”Obama said. “It's just that it will bankrupt them...

[JohnK. Matyi] It amazes my how the Democratic politicians and surrogates always 'protect' their own by first attacking, then reminding everyone about their favorite sound bites (like we haven't heard them before). I have not heard anything new on the Democratic side (except all the gaffs and flip flops) for quite a while. Even their mannerisms are all the same. Every time a conservative speaker says anything they all put on that condescending Obama smile, and then go back to their sound bites (starting with "No one wants to hear that  [Ayers, Wright, etc.] old story anymore, what they really want to hear is how Obama will lower their taxes [what did he say?], clean their windshields, buy everyone a new house, send them a welfare check, part the water, etc.

So when Palin makes a statement about Obama's plan to "tax' the coal industry out of business [we have it on tape] this is just another sorry attempt by the Republicans trying to again take him out of context. My God, give us a break! Do they really think we are that stupid? I hope I'm not the only one that is tired of this. My guess is his teleprompter froze and he had to tell the truth. Don't you just hate it when that happens?

What really bothers me is that this is another case of a biased MSM hiding a tape that was potentially damaging to their messiah until a couple of days before the election (from a January 17 interview). If not for the Drudge Report I am sure it would have remained hidden.  [Emphasis is mine]

Palin Slams Obama Over Coal Comments, Sunday, November 2, 2008

Responding to the discovery of an audio tape of an old Barak Obama interview Sunday, Sarah Palin accused the Democrat of “talking about bankrupting the coal industry,” as she campaigned through the coal regions of Ohio.

“He said that, sure, if the industry wants to build coal-fired power plants, then they can go ahead and try, he says, but they can do it only in a way that will bankrupt the coal industry, and he's comfortable letting that happen,” Palin said. “And you got to listen to the tape.”

The audiotape Palin referred to was recorded by the San francisco Chronicle in a Jan. 17 interview and uncovered by the Drudge Report.

“Why is the audiotape just now surfacing?” Palin said, according to CBS News.

Someone in the crowd shouted, “Liberal media!”

“This interview was given to San Francisco folks many, many months ago,” Palin said. “You should have known about this, so that youwould have better decision-making information as you go into the voting booth.”
In the audiotape, Obama reiterated his call for a cap and trade system on carbon and greenhouse gases.

“So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can,”Obama said. “It's just that it will bankrupt them because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted.”
